Hi friend,
Can you believe it? April's wrapping up, and so is our month of Fear Less, Do More. As we reflect on our journey, let's delve deeper into boosting our self-esteem, a crucial aspect often intertwined with our fears and perceptions of ourselves. There are two powerful ways to boost our self-esteem that I want to share with you.
First, be true to your word. If you say you'll do something, make sure you do it. When we commit to honoring our word, ensuring follow-through is key. It's okay to pause and assess before committing fully; saying "no" when you're uncertain is a key way to preserve your integrity.
Consider the analogy of embarking on a weight loss journey. Success demands wholehearted dedication. If promises to improve diet falter daily, this lack of sticktoitiveness erodes self-trust and esteem. If you're not sure, it's okay to wait until you are. Learn to say no when you're not sure or not ready, and reserve yes for when you're committed to completion.
Moreover, challenging perceived limitations is transformative. Venturing beyond comfort zones defies internal doubts, affirming capabilities. Try something you think you can't do—and then surprise yourself by doing it! Maybe it's learning a new language or giving someone your elevator pitch. Whatever it is, stepping out of your comfort zone tells your negative inner voice that it's wrong and it shouldn't doubt you.
We all have inner-monologue where we talk to ourselves, more so subconsciously or when we're not really paying attention. It's important to hear what you say and ensure that those conversations are positive and supportive, not negative and mean. Don't give yourself too many hall passes, but we should be honest with ourselves, work on what needs improving, and celebrate our victories. Listen to how you talk to yourself, and be constructive and kind. The way you talk to yourself is the way you should talk to anyone; with courtesy, respect, honesty and diplomacy.
Working on skills is important, but self-esteem is trickier. It's about how we see ourselves as people. My mom, for example, is super confident in her abilities, but struggles with self-esteem. She works daily to change how she talks to herself. She, like many others, learned her worth from what important people said when she was young. But now, as adults, we can change that inner voice.
DO THIS
Check in with your thoughts throughout the day. Make sure what you're telling yourself is true by finding three pieces of evidence to support it.
THINK THIS
If there's something you want to change about yourself, go for it! Set realistic goals, surround yourself with supportive people, and don't worry about failing. This life is yours to live to the fullest.
I have faith in you,
Liz
