Dear friend,
Continuing our exploration of "This I Believe," we close out March by diving into the significance of personal values. Cultivating success in both your personal and professional lives relies on understanding what you hold nearest and dearest: your personal values. These values serve as foundational elements shaping your attitudes, behaviors, and life outcomes.
When you know what you value you stay true to yourself and make choices that are consistent with your beliefs and principles, leading to a greater sense of integrity and self-respect.
When faced with challenges or setbacks, your values remind you of what truly matters and can motivate you to persevere through difficult times with determination and courage.
You experience deeper connections, trust, and support with people who share your values, which can contribute to your overall well-being and success.
And maybe most importantly you set meaningful goals and priorities, and allocate your time and energy more effectively to pursue a life that is in harmony with your deepest aspirations and desires
DO THIS
Discover your values. Look inward and reflect on what matters most to you in life to help you identify your values.
1. Reflect on past experiences:
Think about moments in your life when you felt happiest, most fulfilled, or most proud.
2. Consider what motivates you:
Think about the activities or goals that energize and inspire you.
3. Examine your priorities:
Take a look at how you allocate your time, energy, and resources. What does this reveal about what you value most?
4. Pay attention to your emotions:
Notice how you feel in different situations. Your emotions can often signal when your values are being honored or compromised.
5. Imagine your ideal life:
Picture yourself living your best life. What values are central to that vision?
If you are new to this exploration of values, examples will help. Here is a list of a few common personal values.
Integrity: Being honest, ethical, and trustworthy in all interactions.
Respect: Valuing the dignity, opinions, and boundaries of oneself and others.
Responsibility: Taking ownership of one's actions, obligations, and commitments.
Compassion: Showing empathy, kindness, and understanding towards others' experiences and struggles.
Courage: Facing challenges, adversity, and fears with bravery and determination.
Gratitude: Appreciating and acknowledging the blessings, opportunities, and support in one's life.
Authenticity: Being true to oneself, expressing genuine thoughts, feelings, and beliefs.
Equality: Advocating for fairness, justice, and equal opportunities for all individuals.
Perseverance: Persisting in the pursuit of goals and aspirations despite obstacles or setbacks.
Growth: Continuously seeking personal development, learning, and self-improvement.
MAKE A LIST of your most important personal values and reflect on how they impact your daily life. Then ask yourself, “Are my actions aligned with my values?”
THINK THIS
Values, neither right nor wrong, evolve from your background and experiences and understanding your values goes well beyond personal growth. By continuously striving to live in alignment with your values, you can be authentic and realize your full potential.
Using your list of what you hold near and dear, prioritize your time and energy accordingly to embrace the journey toward a great, fun, and fulfilling life—the essence of "This Is My Year."
Here's to bidding farewell to March and welcoming the rejuvenating spirit of spring!
All my best,
Liz
